AI financial assistant

Ask your money anything. Get answers you can check.

Sprout connects to your bank and card accounts, read-only, and answers money questions like a sharp friend with a calculator. Ask in plain English on your iPhone, your Mac, the web, or inside Claude, and every answer shows exactly which accounts and dates it used.

The short answer

Sprout AI is an AI financial assistant that answers questions about your own money in plain English. It reads your bank and card transactions through a read-only Plaid connection, then calculates spending, cash flow, subscriptions, and period comparisons on request. Every answer names the accounts and dates behind it, and Sprout can never move money.

Ask it like this

  • “What changed in my spending this quarter?”
  • “How much did I spend at Costco this year?”
  • “Did any of my subscriptions go up in price?”
  • “Was my cash flow positive last month?”
  • “Show me anything unusual on my cards in the last 30 days.”
  • “What's my latest checking balance?”

One assistant for every money question

Most bank apps are built to show a balance and a list of transactions. Everything else takes digging. Sprout is an AI personal finance app that does the digging for you across every account you connect. Type a question the way you would ask a friend, and Sprout finds the right transactions, does the math, and replies in a sentence you can act on.

It handles the small questions ("how much was that Uber?") and the ones that shape a month ("am I spending more than I earn?"). Stay on one topic for a dozen follow-ups or jump between them. Think of it as an AI money coach that works from your real numbers instead of generic tips.

  • Spending: by category, merchant, or account, for any date range, including your biggest purchases.
  • Comparisons: two periods side by side, with the exact change in dollars and percent.
  • Cash flow: money in, money out, and net, by day, week, or month.
  • Subscriptions: repeating charges, their yearly cost, estimated next dates, and price changes.
  • Search: any transaction by merchant, date, category, account, currency, or amount.
  • Unusual charges: unusually large expenses and possible duplicate charges worth a second look.
  • Balances and data health: latest synced balances and which accounts are up to date.

Answers with receipts, every time

An AI that sounds confident is easy to build. An AI you can check is the one worth trusting with your money. Every Sprout answer lists the accounts it read and the exact dates it covered, and the transactions behind a total are right there when you want to verify the math yourself.

Answers can include charts and tables when a picture helps, like net cash flow month by month or a ranked table of your top merchants. Sprout also reports what it cannot see. An account that needs reconnecting or a card you never linked shows up as a gap in the answer, so missing data never passes for a quiet month.

Sprout answers from the data it can see and tells you when an account is out of date. A number with its accounts and dates attached is a number you can check.

Read-only by design

Sprout connects through Plaid with read-only access. Plaid runs the bank sign-in, so Sprout never sees or stores your banking password. You pick which accounts to connect and can disconnect any of them at any time, or delete your Sprout account to erase your banks, transactions, and conversations.

Read-only means Sprout can look and can never touch. It cannot transfer money, pay bills, change account settings, or place trades, and it does not offer loans or cash advances. When Sprout uses an AI provider to answer you, that provider receives your question and only the records needed to answer it. Sprout does not sell your personal data.

Sprout is informational. It shows you the numbers so you can make the call, and it does not give financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. It does not make credit decisions either, which keeps it firmly on your side of the table: a tool for understanding your own money, built for you rather than for a lender.

Ask it wherever you already are

Sprout runs on iPhone and iPad, on the Mac through the Mac App Store, and in your web browser. Sign in with Apple, Google, or email. On iPhone you can also ask through Siri with the Ask Sprout shortcut, glance at widgets for today's spending, or follow a Live Activity in the Dynamic Island.

If you already work inside an AI assistant, bring your money questions with you. Sprout connects to Claude as a plugin or as a remote MCP server with OAuth sign-in, so you can chat with your bank accounts in the same window where you plan trips and draft emails. Sprout's ChatGPT app has been submitted to OpenAI and is in review.

How a real conversation goes

The best question is usually the second one. Sprout keeps the context of the conversation, so you can start broad, chase whatever surprises you, and never repeat the date range or the account names. Conversations are saved, so you can pick up a thread tomorrow right where you left it.

  1. Start broad

"How did September go?" Sprout returns your total spending for 1–30 September and the categories that took the most.

  2. Follow the surprise

"Why was travel so high?" Sprout lists the travel transactions, largest first, so the $640 flight stands out.

  3. Compare

"Is that more than last September?" Sprout compares the two periods and gives the exact change in dollars and percent.

  4. Check the receipts

Every answer names the accounts and dates it used, so you can confirm the numbers before you act on them.

A money coach that shows up daily

An assistant you have to remember to open is easy to forget. On iPhone, Sprout comes to you with the daily Money Minute, a short story with yesterday's spending next to your usual day, your biggest purchase, how the month is pacing, and the recurring charges coming up. Streaks and a growing Sprout pet turn the check-in into a habit.

Every Sunday, Weekly Money Wrapped recaps your week, and on the 1st, Monthly Money Wrapped recaps the month. When you want honesty with a laugh, the Spending Roast takes on your last 30 days. Every line quotes a real number from your data, and the praise lines keep it kind.

Common questions

AI financial assistant: your questions, answered.

What is an AI financial assistant?

An AI financial assistant answers questions about your money in plain English, so you can skip the charts and spreadsheets. Sprout AI does this with your own bank and card data, read-only, and shows the accounts and dates behind every answer so you can verify the math.

Can I chat with my bank account?

Yes. Connect your checking, savings, and credit card accounts through Plaid, then ask Sprout questions the way you would text a friend. Sprout searches transactions, totals spending, and compares periods across every account you connect, one at a time or all together.

Is it safe to connect an AI to my bank account?

Sprout's connection is read-only through Plaid, which runs the bank sign-in, so Sprout never sees or stores your banking password. It cannot move money, pay bills, or change accounts. An AI provider receives only your question and the records needed to answer it.

Does Sprout give financial advice?

No. Sprout is informational. It calculates totals, comparisons, cash flow, and recurring charges from your data so you can make your own decisions. It does not give financial, investment, tax, or legal advice, and it does not make credit decisions.

How much does Sprout cost?

Sprout Plus costs US$99.99 per year or US$9.99 per week, with a 3-day free trial for eligible Apple accounts on iPhone. You subscribe in the iPhone app and can explore fictional sample data before connecting a bank. See pricing for Canadian prices.

Which banks work with Sprout?

Eligible banks, credit unions, and card issuers available through Plaid in the United States and Canada. The connection screen shows what is available to you. US and Canadian dollar accounts stay in their own currencies and are never combined or converted.

Can I use Sprout in Claude or ChatGPT?

In Claude, yes: install the Sprout plugin or add Sprout's remote MCP server and sign in with OAuth. Sprout's ChatGPT app has been submitted to OpenAI and is in review, so it is coming to ChatGPT but has not been published yet.
