It cannot move money
Sprout requests read-only access. Transfers, payments, trades, and card changes do not exist in the product, so there is nothing to switch on or hack into.
Security and privacy
Sprout reads your money so you can understand it. It cannot spend it, move it, or sell it. Here is exactly what happens when you connect a bank, and what never happens.
Sprout requests read-only access. Transfers, payments, trades, and card changes do not exist in the product, so there is nothing to switch on or hack into.
Plaid runs the bank sign-in inside its own secure flow. Sprout receives an authorized, read-only connection and never sees or stores your banking password.
Sprout is paid for by subscriptions, not ads. We do not sell personal data, and AI providers receive only what is needed to answer the question you asked.
Disconnect a bank whenever you like. Delete your account and Sprout erases your banks, transactions, conversations, and access tokens.
Sprout connects to eligible US and Canadian institutions through Plaid. When you add a bank, Plaid opens its own sign-in screen. Many banks then hand you to their own website or app to approve the connection, so your credentials are entered with your bank or with Plaid, never with Sprout.
The connection Sprout asks for is limited to reading transactions and balances. You choose which accounts to share, and you can review or revoke the connection from Sprout's Accounts screen at any time.
Inside the Plaid flow, search for your institution and sign in where it asks you to.
Share checking, savings, and cards, or only the ones you want Sprout to read.
Transactions and balances sync to your Sprout account. There is no path for Sprout to send money or change the account.
Sprout is an analysis app. It answers questions about money that has already moved. It deliberately leaves every action with you and your bank.
| Action | Sprout | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Read transactions and balances | Yes | That is how it answers your questions |
| Move money, pay bills, or transfer | Never | The connection is read-only by design |
| Cancel subscriptions or dispute charges | Never | You stay in control of every account action |
| Place trades or make credit decisions | Never | Sprout is not a broker or a lender |
| See your bank password | Never | Plaid and your bank handle sign-in |
| Sell your data or show ads | Never | Sprout is funded by subscriptions |
Every query Sprout runs carries your authenticated user ID as a required filter, so one person's question can never read another person's records. Totals, comparisons, and cash flow figures are computed by Sprout's own server-side tools from your data, and the AI explains the results rather than doing the arithmetic in its head.
Transaction descriptions come from banks and merchants, so Sprout treats them strictly as data. A merchant name that looks like an instruction is still just a merchant name. AI output is checked against a fixed response format before it reaches your screen.
To answer a question, Sprout sends your question and the financial records needed to answer it to its contracted AI inference provider, only to deliver that answer. Plaid provides the bank connection. Our identity provider handles sign-in. Infrastructure providers host and secure the service.
If you connect Sprout to Claude, Claude receives the balances, transactions, and summaries it requests for your account to answer you there. You can disconnect it at any time in Claude's connector settings. The full list lives in our Privacy Policy.
Open More → Delete account in the app to permanently remove your account with its financial records, transactions, conversations, and access tokens. Disconnecting a single bank stops future syncing immediately. Deleting your account does not cancel an Apple subscription, so cancel that in your Apple subscription settings.
We will never ask for your password, bank credentials, full account numbers, or one-time codes. If someone claiming to be Sprout asks, it is not us. Report it to our support team.

Sprout sends your question and the records needed to answer it to its contracted AI provider only to deliver your answer, not for advertising or cross-service tracking.
Deleting your account permanently removes it with its banks, transactions, conversations, and access tokens. Limited records may be kept only where the law requires it.
Every answer lists the accounts and date range it used. Compare that with your statement, since pending transactions are the usual cause. If it still does not add up, email us and we will trace it.
