Sprout for ChatGPT
Sprout's money answers are coming to ChatGPT.
Sprout's ChatGPT app has been submitted to OpenAI and is in review, so you can't install it yet. In the meantime, Sprout's own AI chat answers the same questions from your connected US and Canadian accounts on iPhone, Mac, the web, and in Claude.
The short answer
Sprout AI is bringing its read-only money answers to ChatGPT. The Sprout app has been submitted to OpenAI and is in review, not yet published. OpenAI also offers Finances in ChatGPT for US bank accounts. Until Sprout's app is live, ask the same questions in Sprout on iPhone, Mac, and the web, or in Claude.
Ask it like this
- “Where did my money go last month?”
- “Which vendors did my business spend the most with this quarter?”
- “What changed in my cash flow between August and September?”
- “Which subscriptions or SaaS tools keep renewing?”
- “Show every charge over $200 in the last 30 days.”
- “Did anything look like a duplicate charge this month?”
What did I spend in September, and what went up?
You spent $4,126 in September, $286 more than August. Eating out and travel drove most of the increase. Sprout totaled all 214 transactions on its server and listed the accounts it read.

Where the Sprout ChatGPT app stands
Sprout has submitted its ChatGPT app to OpenAI, and it is in review. It is not published yet, so you won't find it inside ChatGPT today. We will update this page when OpenAI approves it. Everything the app will do already works in Sprout itself, so there is no reason to wait for your answers.
The ChatGPT app is built for personal and business finance: individuals, freelancers, founders, and small-business owners reviewing their own connected accounts. It answers questions about spending, cash flow, vendors, subscriptions, and charges from real transactions, read-only, and it shows the accounts and dates behind each answer. Until it is published, use Sprout here:
- iPhone and iPad: the full Sprout app with chat, widgets, and the daily Money Minute. See Sprout for iPhone.
- Mac: Sprout from the Mac App Store, for longer reviews on a bigger screen.
- Web: app-sprout.z4k.app in any browser, with nothing to install.
- Claude: the Sprout plugin for Claude, live today with the same read-only tools.
ChatGPT has its own bank connection now
OpenAI now offers Finances in ChatGPT, which connects US bank accounts through Plaid, read-only. According to OpenAI's help center, it has been free on all ChatGPT plans since October 2, 2026. If you live in the US and want money answers inside ChatGPT today, it is worth a look, and Sprout's app will be another option there once it is published.
Sprout is a money app first, with its own apps, daily habits, and answers that work in more than one assistant. ChatGPT is great for explaining ideas like the 50/30/20 rule, and Sprout keeps your own numbers close at hand wherever you check them. Our Sprout vs ChatGPT comparison covers the differences in detail. Here is what Sprout brings:
- Canada too: eligible US and Canadian institutions, with USD and CAD kept in their own currencies, never combined or converted.
- Apps you can glance at: iPhone, iPad, Mac, and the web, plus Home Screen widgets and a Live Activity for today's spending on iPhone.
- A daily habit: the one-minute Money Minute, streaks, Weekly and Monthly Money Wrapped, and the Spending Roast.
- More than one assistant: the same read-only tools in Claude today, and in ChatGPT once the app is published.
- Receipts and scope: exact totals calculated on Sprout's server, the accounts and dates on every answer, and personal or business reviews limited to the accounts you choose.
Why a connected app beats pasting statements into a chatbot
Plenty of people still budget with a chatbot by pasting in a bank statement or a CSV. That can work for a one-off question, and our guide on using ChatGPT for budgeting shows how to do it carefully. A connected, read-only app removes the weak spots of that workflow.
With pasted data, the answer is only as good as the file. It goes stale the day after you export it, it usually covers one account, and the totals depend on the model adding up hundreds of rows. A connected app reads current data from every account you choose and calculates the totals on the server.
| What matters | Paste a statement | Connected Sprout app |
|---|---|---|
| Fresh data | Frozen when you export | Latest synced transactions |
| Exact math | The model adds up rows | Totals, changes, and percentages computed by Sprout |
| Receipts | You re-check the file yourself | Accounts and date range on every answer |
| Effort each time | Download, clean, and paste CSVs | Connect once, then ask |
| Coverage | One file at a time | Every account you connect, with USD and CAD kept separate |
What you will be able to ask in ChatGPT
The ChatGPT app uses the same read-only tools as Sprout's other surfaces. Ask where your money went, which vendors your business paid most, how cash flow changed between two months, or which subscriptions keep renewing. Each question maps to a tool that returns structured numbers for ChatGPT to explain.
For business reviews, you choose which accounts a question covers, so personal and business money stay separate. Keep in mind that net cash flow from bank data is not accounting profit. Sprout is a clear way to read your accounts, and it does not replace your bookkeeping.
- Spending and vendors: totals by category, merchant, or vendor for any date range.
- Cash flow: inflows, outflows, and net cash flow by day, week, or month, excluding transfers between your own accounts.
- Period comparisons: the exact dollar change and percentage between two periods.
- Subscriptions and SaaS: detected recurring charges, estimated next dates, annualized cost, and price changes.
- Charge review: transaction search, plus possible duplicates and unusually large expenses to check.
Read-only, by design
Sprout connects to banks through Plaid, which runs the bank sign-in, so Sprout never sees or stores your banking password. Access is read-only. Sprout can't move money, pay bills, cancel subscriptions, or dispute charges, and neither can an assistant connected to it. Bank transaction descriptions are treated as data, never as instructions.
Connecting the ChatGPT app means signing in to your Sprout account. Your bank connection stays in Sprout, and ChatGPT receives only what Sprout's tools return for your question. Read the full details on our security page.

Common questions
ChatGPT: your questions, answered.
Can I connect my bank account to ChatGPT?
In the US, yes. OpenAI offers Finances in ChatGPT, which connects US bank accounts through Plaid, read-only, according to OpenAI's help center. Sprout's own ChatGPT app has been submitted to OpenAI and is in review. Until it is published, use Sprout's AI chat on iPhone, Mac, or the web, or the Sprout plugin for Claude.
When will Sprout be in ChatGPT?
Publication depends on OpenAI's review, so we can't promise a date. The app is submitted and in review, and this page will say so as soon as it is published. Everything it will do already works in Sprout's own apps and in Claude.
How is Sprout different from Finances in ChatGPT?
Sprout works with eligible US and Canadian accounts and keeps USD and CAD separate. It has its own iPhone, iPad, Mac, and web apps with widgets, the daily Money Minute, Wrapped, and Spending Roast, and it also works in Claude. Every answer lists its accounts and dates, and you choose which accounts a review covers.
Is it safe to paste bank statements into ChatGPT?
That is your call, but a statement usually carries far more than one question needs: account details, balances, and every transaction for the period. A read-only connection shares less. Sprout sends its AI provider only your question and the records needed to answer it.
Will the Sprout ChatGPT app work for business accounts?
Yes, it is built for personal and business finance. You choose which connected accounts a review covers, so business cash flow, vendor payments, and SaaS spend stay separate from personal spending. Sprout analyzes bank and card data, and it is not accounting software.
How much does Sprout cost?
Sprout Plus costs US$99.99 per year or US$9.99 per week, or CA$129.99 and CA$12.99 in Canada. Eligible Apple accounts get a 3-day free trial on iPhone, where you subscribe. You can explore fictional sample data before connecting a bank.
Can a ChatGPT app move my money?
Sprout's can't. Its bank access is read-only, so it cannot transfer money, pay bills, cancel subscriptions, dispute charges, or place trades, whichever assistant asks. Sprout is informational and does not give financial advice.
