Sprout for Claude

Ask Claude about your actual bank accounts.

Sprout plugs your connected bank and card accounts into Claude through a read-only MCP connector. Ask where your money went, what renewed, or how cash flow changed, and Claude answers from your real transactions with the accounts and dates attached.

The short answer

Sprout AI connects your bank account to Claude. Install the Sprout plugin in Claude Code or add Sprout's remote MCP server as a custom connector, sign in to Sprout, and Claude can call read-only finance tools for spending, cash flow, subscriptions, and transaction search. Claude only sees what those tools return for your own account.

Ask it like this

  • “What did I spend on eating out last month, by merchant?”
  • “Compare my cash flow this quarter with last quarter.”
  • “Which subscriptions renewed in the last 60 days, and what do they cost a year?”
  • “Find every Amazon charge over $100 since July.”
  • “Are there any possible duplicate charges on my credit card this month?”
  • “Open Sprout and show my September transactions.”

Claude, what changed in my spending from August to September?

You spent $412 more in September than in August. Travel and eating out drove most of the increase, and groceries came in slightly lower. Sprout's compare_periods tool calculated the change, so the figures are exact.

What Sprout adds to Claude

Claude is great at reasoning about money, but on its own it has never seen your bank account. Sprout gives it a read-only window. Once you connect, Claude can call Sprout's finance tools to pull your balances, spending, cash flow, and recurring charges, then explain what it found in the same conversation.

The math happens on Sprout's server, not in the model's head. When you ask how September compared with August, the compare_periods tool returns the exact totals, the dollar change, and the percentage. Claude explains the result, and every figure traces back to the accounts and dates the tool used.

  • Spending: totals by category or merchant for any date range, plus your biggest purchases. See the spending tracker.
  • Cash flow: inflows, outflows, and net cash flow by day, week, or month, with transfers between your own accounts left out.
  • Subscriptions: detected recurring charges with estimated next dates, annualized cost, and price changes.
  • Search and review: transactions by merchant, date, category, account, currency, or amount, plus possible duplicates and unusually large charges.

Install the Sprout plugin in Claude Code

The plugin is the fastest route if you use Claude Code. It bundles Sprout's remote MCP server with four skills, get-started, money-review, subscription-review, and charge-review, so Claude knows how to run a full money review without you writing a long prompt. You need a Sprout account with at least one bank connected first.

  1. Connect a bank in Sprout

Sign in to Sprout on iPhone, Mac, or the web with Apple, Google, or email. Connect your bank through Plaid and choose the accounts you want Sprout to read.

  2. Add the Sprout marketplace

In your terminal, run claude plugin marketplace add MindCraftersGroup/sprout-claude-plugin to add the MindCrafters plugin marketplace to Claude Code.

  3. Install the plugin

Run claude plugin install sprout-finance@mindcrafters. The plugin itself stores no credentials, so there is nothing to paste or configure.

  4. Sign in on your first question

Ask Claude something like "Where did my money go last month?" The first tool call asks you to connect Sprout, and Claude signs you in through Sprout's OAuth server. After that, your questions go straight to your data.

Or add Sprout as a custom connector

Prefer to skip the plugin? Sprout runs a remote MCP server at https://api-sprout.z4k.app/mcp. Add it as a custom connector in Claude's connector settings, then sign in to your Sprout account when Claude asks. You get the same read-only finance tools. The plugin simply adds the four guided skills on top.

Under the hood, Claude discovers Sprout's sign-in through standard OAuth metadata, and you approve the connection on Sprout's own sign-in page. Claude receives an access token for your Sprout account. It never receives your bank password, which only Plaid handles. Developers can read the technical details on the Sprout MCP server page.

What Claude can see, and what it cannot

Claude only sees what Sprout's tools return for your account. When you ask a question, Claude sends the dates, accounts, categories, or search text involved to Sprout's server, and the server answers from your own Sprout data and nobody else's. Sprout's bank access is read-only, so no tool can move money, pay bills, cancel subscriptions, dispute charges, or place trades.

Bank transaction descriptions are treated as data, never as instructions, so a strange merchant name can't steer the conversation. Some answers are estimates by nature: recurring dates and annual costs are predictions, unusual-charge matches are items to review rather than fraud findings, and net cash flow is not accounting profit. More on how Sprout protects your data is on the security page.

Change your mind? Disconnect Sprout in Claude's connector settings at any time. To erase everything, delete your Sprout account in More → Delete account, which removes your banks, transactions, and conversations.

See Sprout beside the chat

In Claude clients that support MCP Apps, the open_sprout tool shows the Sprout web app beside the conversation. Ask Claude to open your September transactions at coffee shops, or your Amex charges over $100, and the view opens already filtered by account, merchant, category, dates, or currency.

Sprout also works on its own on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and the web, with saved conversations, charts, and the daily Money Minute. Use Claude when you are already working there, and the iPhone app when you want a quick check-in with Home Screen widgets and a Live Activity for today's spending.

Why connect Sprout instead of pasting a statement

You could export a CSV and paste it into Claude. It works once. Then the data goes stale, the file covers a single account, and the totals depend on the model adding hundreds of rows correctly. A connected Sprout account stays current, covers every account you choose, and does the arithmetic on the server.

Common questions

Claude: your questions, answered.

Can I connect my bank account to Claude?

Yes, through Sprout AI. Connect your bank to Sprout through Plaid, then install the Sprout plugin in Claude Code or add Sprout's MCP server as a custom connector. Claude can then answer questions about your spending, cash flow, and subscriptions from your real accounts, read-only.

Is it safe to connect Claude to my bank?

Sprout's access is read-only, so neither Sprout nor Claude can move money. Plaid runs your bank sign-in and Sprout never sees or stores your bank password. Claude only receives what Sprout's tools return for your own account, through an access token that ends when you disconnect the connector.

Do I need a Sprout account to use the Claude plugin?

Yes. Sign in to Sprout with Apple, Google, or email, and connect a supported US or Canadian bank through Plaid in the Sprout app. The plugin reads from that account, so connect your bank before you ask Claude your first money question.

Which Claude apps work with Sprout?

The plugin installs in Claude Code with two commands. Claude apps that support custom remote connectors can add Sprout's MCP server URL directly. The Sprout view beside the chat appears in Claude clients that render MCP Apps, and other clients show the answers in the conversation.

Can Claude pay bills or move money through Sprout?

No. Every Sprout finance tool is read-only, so Claude cannot transfer money, pay bills, cancel subscriptions, dispute charges, or trade through Sprout. The one setting it can change is your default reporting period, through update_settings, which only affects how Sprout answers.

How much does Sprout cost?

Sprout Plus costs US$99.99 per year or US$9.99 per week, or CA$129.99 per year and CA$12.99 per week in Canada. Eligible Apple accounts get a 3-day free trial on iPhone, where you subscribe. Details are on the pricing page.

How do I disconnect Sprout from Claude?

Remove the Sprout connector in Claude's connector settings, or uninstall the plugin in Claude Code. That ends Claude's access. Your bank stays connected to Sprout until you disconnect it there, and deleting your Sprout account in More → Delete account erases your banks, transactions, and conversations.

Ask Sprout where your money went.

Connect your accounts read-only, ask in plain English, and get the number with the receipts. 3 days free on iPhone if eligible.
