Sprout for Mac
Big money questions deserve a big screen.
On the Mac, Sprout gives your money questions room to breathe, with wider charts, full tables, and long conversations you can scroll back through. It's the same account as your iPhone, and it also works in your web browser.
The short answer
Sprout AI is a personal finance app for Mac, available on the Mac App Store. It connects your bank and card accounts read-only through Plaid and answers questions about spending, subscriptions, and cash flow in plain English, with charts and tables. Your Mac uses the same Sprout account as your iPhone, iPad, and the web app.
Ask it like this
- “Compare my spending this quarter with last quarter by category”
- “Show my net cash flow by month this year as a chart”
- “List every charge over $200 since January in a table”
- “What are all my recurring charges and their yearly cost?”
- “How much did my business card spend on software in Q3?”
- “Which merchants did I spend the most at this year?”
Compare my spending this quarter with last quarter by category
You spent $9,214 from July to September, 4% more than April to June. Travel drove most of the increase, groceries barely moved, and eating out fell.

Room for the deeper questions
Your phone is perfect for "what did I spend today". The Mac is where you ask the questions that come with a cup of coffee and twenty minutes: how this quarter compared with the last one, what your subscriptions cost per year, or which months ran negative on cash flow. Sprout answers with charts and tables you can read at full width.
Every answer names the accounts and dates it used, and conversations are saved. Start a question on your iPhone in the morning and pick up the thread on your Mac in the evening, with follow-ups that remember what you were talking about.
Charts, tables, and exact comparisons
Ask for a chart and Sprout draws one. Ask for a table and you get rows you can scan. Compare two periods and Sprout gives the exact dollar change and the percentage, calculated from your transactions instead of estimated. On a big screen, a year of monthly cash flow or a long list of charges is easy to take in at once.
- Period comparisons: this month versus last, or this quarter versus the one before, with exact changes.
- Cash flow: inflows, outflows, and net cash flow by day, week, or month, with transfers between your own accounts left out.
- Recurring charges: detected subscriptions with estimated next dates, yearly cost, and price changes.
- Transaction search: by merchant, date, category, account, currency, or amount.
- Unusual charges: possible duplicates and unusually large expenses, flagged as items to review.
Same account on Mac, iPhone, iPad, and the web
Sign in with Apple, Google, or email, and your Mac shows the same connected banks, the same transactions, and the same saved conversations as your iPhone. There's nothing to export, import, or sync by hand. Connect a new account on one device and it's there on the others.
Prefer not to install anything? Sprout also runs in your web browser with the same account. And if you already work in Claude on your Mac, you can connect Sprout to Claude and ask your money questions there, with the same read-only access.
Lighter than desktop accounting software
If you want something lighter than desktop accounting software, Sprout takes a different approach. You don't reconcile ledgers or build a category scheme before you get value. You connect your accounts, ask a question in plain English, and read the answer with its receipts.
That also means Sprout has limits worth knowing. It is read-only, so it can't pay bills, move money, or place trades, and it isn't a bookkeeping system or an envelope budget. Pick the right tool for each job and Sprout fits in nicely next to whatever you already use.
| The job | Best tool for it |
|---|---|
| Where did my money go last month? | Sprout: ask and get the breakdown with receipts |
| What do my subscriptions cost per year? | Sprout: recurring charges with yearly cost |
| Spot a possible double charge | Sprout flags it, then your bank handles any dispute |
| Reconcile every account for tax filing | Your accountant or accounting software |
| Pay bills or move money | Your bank |
Personal and business, kept apart
Plenty of people who want a finance app on their Mac also run a side business or freelance. Sprout lets you pick which accounts a review covers, so your business card and your personal checking stay separate when you ask. "What did my business account spend on software this quarter?" gets an answer from that account alone.
That makes the Mac a good spot for a quarterly check on both sides of your money: what came in, what went out, and which recurring tools you still pay for. Our page for freelancers has more questions worth asking when your money wears two hats.
Safe to leave open on your desk
Sprout connects through Plaid with read-only access, never sees your bank password, and can't move money. US and Canadian dollar accounts stay in their own currencies and are never converted. Sprout does not sell personal data, and deleting your account in More → Delete account erases your banks, transactions, and conversations.
Answers are informational and are not financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. When a number matters for a decision, open the transactions behind it and check them against your statements. Every answer shows the accounts and dates it used, so that check takes seconds.
Common questions
Mac: your questions, answered.
Is Sprout available on the Mac App Store?
Yes. Sprout AI is on the Mac App Store under the name Chat With Your Finance, and it uses the same account as the iPhone and iPad app. You can also use Sprout in a web browser without installing anything.
Do my iPhone accounts and conversations show up on the Mac?
Yes. Sign in with the same Apple, Google, or email account and you'll see the same connected banks, transactions, and saved conversations. There's nothing to export or sync manually, and follow-up questions pick up where you left off.
Is Sprout a Quicken alternative for Mac?
If you want something lighter than desktop accounting software, Sprout is worth a look. You connect accounts and ask questions instead of maintaining ledgers. It is read-only and doesn't pay bills or keep books, so keep dedicated software if you need those jobs done.
Can I see charts and tables on the Mac?
Yes. Ask for a chart or a table and Sprout includes one in the answer, like monthly net cash flow as a chart or every charge over $200 as a table. The larger screen makes long tables and multi-month charts easier to read.
Which banks work with Sprout on Mac?
Eligible banks, credit unions, and card issuers in the United States and Canada, connected through Plaid. You choose which accounts to connect and can disconnect them at any time. Plaid runs the bank sign-in, so Sprout never sees your password.
How much does Sprout for Mac cost?
Sprout Plus costs US$99.99 per year or US$9.99 per week, with a 3-day free trial for eligible Apple accounts on iPhone. You subscribe in the iPhone app, and Apple confirms your local price before you buy. See pricing for the details.
Can Sprout pay my bills from my Mac?
No. Sprout is read-only on every device. It can't move money, pay bills, transfer funds, or place trades. It reads your transactions and balances so it can answer questions, and its answers are informational, not financial advice.
