Gamified money habit

A one-minute money habit, with a plant that's counting on you.

Sprout's Money Minute is a quick daily story about yesterday's spending. Check in to keep your streak, finish small quests, and watch your Sprout grow from a seed into an ancient oak.

The short answer

Sprout AI is a gamified money app built around a one-minute daily check-in called the Money Minute. Each check-in shows yesterday's spending next to your usual day, extends your streak, and grows your Sprout pet from seed to ancient oak. Daily quests, streak freezes, achievements, and earnable app icons keep the habit going.

Ask it like this

  • “How did I do yesterday?”
  • “What have I spent today?”
  • “Am I on pace to spend more than last month?”
  • “What bills are coming up this week?”
  • “What's my biggest purchase this week?”
  • “How does this week compare with last week?”

How did I do yesterday?

Yesterday you spent $46.80, about a third less than your usual day. Your biggest purchase was $21.40 at Whole Foods. You're on pace for $2,880 this month, and Netflix renews Thursday. That's day 12 of your streak.

What happens in a Money Minute

The Money Minute is a short story you tap through once a day. It shows how yesterday went, where the month is heading, and what's about to charge you, then asks how you feel about it. That's the whole job, and you're done before your coffee cools.

  1. Yesterday versus your usual day

What you spent yesterday next to what a typical day looks like for you, so a big day is obvious at a glance.

  2. Your biggest purchase

The largest charge from yesterday, with the merchant, so nothing big slides by unnoticed.

  3. Month pace

What you've spent so far this month and where that pace lands by month end, next to last month.

  4. Upcoming charges

Recurring charges expected soon, like a streaming renewal or a gym membership, before they hit.

  5. A mood tap

Great, okay, or rough. One tap to note how you feel about your money today, and your check-in counts.

Streaks that forgive a busy day

Every daily check-in extends your streak, and milestones at 3, 7, 14, 30, 50, 100, 200, and 365 days get a celebration. Life happens, so Sprout gives you streak freezes. You earn one for every 7-day run and can hold up to two. Miss a day with a freeze saved and your streak survives.

That small mercy matters. A habit that resets to zero after one missed day teaches you to quit. A freeze keeps the momentum going, and the streak widget on your Home Screen keeps the number in view with your next milestone beside it.

Meet Sprout, the pet that grows with your habit

Your check-ins water a small plant called Sprout. It grows through seven stages as you earn XP from check-ins, questions, quests, and achievements. Skip a couple of days and it gets thirsty. Skip longer and it starts to wilt, which is surprisingly motivating for a cartoon plant.

Sprout's mood depends only on how recently you checked in, never on how much you spent. A pricey week won't punish your plant. The game rewards showing up, because looking at your money every day is the habit that changes it.

Daily quests and achievements that pay off in app icons

Each day brings three quests: the Money Minute plus two small extras, like asking Sprout a question, inspecting a spending category, opening your Money Wrapped, getting a Spending Roast, or visiting your garden. Each one takes seconds and earns XP.

Achievements mark the bigger moments, from your first check-in and your first connected bank to a full year of daily check-ins. Several of them earn an alternate app icon, so your Home Screen shows off the habit too. Here's the full set.

Why one minute a day beats a monthly spreadsheet session

A monthly budget session asks you to remember 30 days of spending at once, usually after the damage is done. A daily minute catches things while they're small: the delivery order you'd forget by Friday, the subscription that renewed at a higher price, the weekend that ran hot. Short, frequent check-ins are easier to keep than long, rare ones.

Sprout does the heavy lifting. Transactions arrive from your connected accounts through Plaid, so the minute is spent looking instead of typing. When something needs a closer look, ask a follow-up question and get the answer with the receipts. If budget categories never stuck for you, read how to budget without a budget, and see why short check-ins suit ADHD brains.

Reminders that meet you where you are

Sprout lives on your iPhone Home Screen and Lock Screen. The Garden widget has a Check in button that works without opening the app, the Streak widget shows your count and next milestone, and a Live Activity keeps today's spending on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. You can also check in from a notification, Siri, Shortcuts, or Control Center.

Notifications are yours to tune. Pick the hour for your daily recap and choose whether you want streak reminders and weekly updates. Offers stay off unless you opt in, so the reminders you get are about your money. Turn everything off and the widgets still keep your streak in view.

Common questions

Money habit: your questions, answered.

What is a gamified budgeting app?

A money app that uses game mechanics like streaks, levels, quests, and rewards to make checking your finances a habit. Sprout AI applies them to a one-minute daily check-in, so the game rewards showing up and looking at your spending rather than hitting a particular number.

Is there a budget app with streaks?

Yes. Sprout counts a streak for every day you complete the Money Minute, celebrates milestones from 3 to 365 days, and gives you streak freezes so one missed day doesn't erase your progress. You earn a freeze for each 7-day run and can hold two at a time.

Does my Sprout pet die if I stop checking in?

It wilts but doesn't disappear. Sprout gets thirsty after a couple of missed days and wilts after a longer gap, then perks up as soon as you check in again. Its growth stage comes from the XP you've already earned, so your progress stays.

Does spending more make my pet sad?

No. Sprout's mood reflects how recently you checked in, never how much you spent. An expensive week won't wilt your plant. The game rewards paying attention, and the honest numbers live in your Money Minute and your answers.

How long does the daily check-in take?

About a minute. The Money Minute is a short tap-through story: yesterday's spending next to your usual day, your biggest purchase, your month pace, upcoming recurring charges, and a one-tap mood check. You can also check in from a widget, a notification, Siri, or Control Center.

Are the habit features free?

They're part of Sprout Plus, which costs US$99.99 per year or US$9.99 per week, with a 3-day free trial for eligible Apple accounts on iPhone. You can explore fictional sample data before connecting a bank. See pricing for the details.

Can I use the Money Minute on iPad, Mac, or the web?

Yes. The Money Minute, quests, garden, and achievements are part of Sprout on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and the web, all on the same account. Home Screen widgets, the Live Activity, and Control Center check-ins come with the iPhone app.

Ask Sprout where your money went.

Connect your accounts read-only, ask in plain English, and get the number with the receipts. 3 days free on iPhone if eligible.
